Ajax and Spanish coach Oscar Garcia part ways after six months
The 53-year-old Spaniard joined Ajax in February 2026 to manage Jong Ajax in the Dutch second tier, having signed an 18-month contract.
After first-team manager Fred Grim was demoted in March, newly appointed technical director Jordi Cruyff, who brought Garcia with him to Amsterdam, appointed Garcia as first-team manager.
In ten games as Ajax manager, Garcia won 5 times and lost twice. The Amsterdam giants finished fifth in the Eredivisie on the joint-lowest points tally since 1962 (55) and clinched a ticket for the UEFA Conference League qualifiers via the play-offs.
In early June, Ajax confirmed it had appointed former Girona boss Míchel as the new first-team manager.
"Oscar joined Ajax U23 at a difficult moment. Shortly afterwards, we needed him with the first team, and that was not an easy situation either. We are grateful for his efforts and, of course, wish him every success in the next stage of his career," Jordi Cruyff said on the club website.
