Hojlund Fires Napoli to Serie A Summit Ahead of AC Milan's Juve Showdown

Rasmus Hojlund found the net once more for Napoli, securing a 2-1 victory against Genoa on Sunday with the decisive goal, propelling the Serie A titleholders to the summit of the league table.

Following his two-goal performance in midweek versus Sporting Lisbon, Hojlund capitalised on a rebound with a quarter of an hour left to net the winner as Napoli recovered from a deficit to secure all three points in their home fixture.

The Danish forward, aged 22, reacted quickly when Andre-Frank Anguissa's strong effort was parried by Genoa's goalkeeper Nicola Leali, extending his goal count to four for Napoli since his transfer from Manchester United.

Hojlund stated to DAZN: My responsibility alongside the team is to secure as many victories as we can therefore the key is to continue working diligently, recovering effectively and concentrating on the upcoming match.

Antonio Conte had contemplated substituting Hojlund prior to the goal, mindful of the player's recent Champions League commitments, but the Danish forward remained on the pitch to score the decisive goal.

Hojlund added: I believe he inquired whether I was fatigued and if I could continue playing. I assured him I had ample energy and felt fresh so I requested to stay on the field.

However, Conte's side faced a challenging path to victory as Anguissa equalised in the 57th minute following a first-half goal from Genoa's young forward Jeff Ekhator, who notched only his second Serie A strike at the break.

Napoli now hold 15 points after six league games, edging ahead of Roma on goal difference. Roma secured a 2-1 win against Fiorentina.

They will maintain their position at the top unless AC Milan triumph in their high-stakes encounter against Juventus in Turin. This match presents another crucial challenge for Massimiliano Allegri's squad, who began the weekend as league leaders following a closely contested victory over Napoli last week.

Matias Soule and Bryan Cristante scored during the first 45 minutes in Florence, helping Roma to their third consecutive Serie A victory. This success followed an early setback when Moise Kean fired home a stunning goal in the 14th minute.

Kean nearly doubled his seasonal tally when his powerful shot struck the post in the 38th minute, shortly after Cristante had headed Roma into the lead.

Roberto Piccoli was denied an equaliser when his volley hit the crossbar in the 74th minute. Fiorentina, still without a win, remain in 18th position with three points, just above the relegation zone.

This result provided Roma with a positive conclusion to the week, following a disappointing Europa League loss to Lille where Gian Piero Gasperini's side failed to convert three late penalty kicks in their attempt to equalise.
