'Not many would find it annoying': Midtjylland director hints at Dolberg move
Ajax are rumoured to potentially get rid of Kasper Dolberg, 28, just one year after their reunion. The Danish striker joined from Anderlecht for a fee around €10 million, but failed to make an impression in his first year back in Amsterdam after scoring just 5 goals in 30 games across all competitions.
Whether newly appointed technical director Jordi Cruyff will actually sell Dolberg remains to be seen, with the Dane the only experienced striker on the books for next season. Wout Weghorst is set to leave the club, with his contract running out this summer.
A return to Denmark has been rumoured, and FC Midtjylland sports director Kristian Bach Bak discussed Dolberg in the Midtjylland fan podcast 'Sort Snak'.
"It's clear that when you mention a player like Dolberg, I don't think many Danish clubs or clubs throughout Europe would say that it would be annoying to get a goalscorer who can just score at will and is ice-cold," Bach Bak said about Dolberg, who last scored on January 28th.
Midtjylland finished second in the Danish Superliga, seven points behind champions Aarhus. The Jutland club are famous for running their football operations in a manner similar to the 'Moneyball' philosophy made famous by the Oakland Athletics in Major League Baseball.
"From saying that to it happening, I think there's a long way to go," Bach Bak continued. "It has to fit with our average age, strategy, and it also costs a bit to bring such types home."
Kasper Dolberg is under contract with Ajax through 2029.
