VPS continue to climb as Jaro and SJK pick up rare Veikkausliiga wins
VPS 4-0 Mariehamn
VPS are quietly becoming one of those big-hitters this season, moving above HJK and going five league games unbeaten with a clear win over basement-dwellers Mariehamn, who remain winless. Kevin Kouassivi-Benissan was their driving force in the first half, assisting goals for Luka Smyth and Oluwaseyi Ogunniyi, before Olavi Keturi and Akon Keuk rounded off a great day for the Vaasa side in the final 15 minutes.
Jaro 2-1 Ilves
Mariehamn are now seven points adrift at the bottom after Jaro picked up just their second win of the season, beating Ilves who have slid down to ninth after going winless in their last three. Strikes from Herman Sjogrell and Rudi Vikstrom put Jaro in control at half-time, making Yiandro Raap's effort three minutes from time no more than a consolation.
SJK 3-1 TPS
Maintaining a three-point lead over Jaro with just their third victory of the season were SJK, overcoming TPS who remain outside the top half on goal difference following a first defeat in three games. Albijon Muzaci cancelled out Kelwin's first-half opener, but when Sayibu Yakubu and Muhammed Suso struck for the Seinajoki side, TPS had no response.
Lahti 1-0 Gnistan
Neemias struck the only goal of the game nine minutes into the second half to give Lahti a much-needed first win in five that takes them to eighth in the table. Gnistan cling on to a top-half place after their five-match unbeaten streak comes to an end, though it's a worrying zero wins in three for the Helsinki side.
