TS Galaxy defeat Milford FC via penalties to secure Nedbank Cup final clash

The encounter unfolded under intense heat at Solomon Mahlangu Stadium, and with extra time failing to produce a winner, the outcome hinged on penalty kicks.

The 2019 champions, Galaxy, are set to face Durban City in the final on May 2, following the latter's narrow 1-0 victory over second-division Casric Stars in their semi-final last Saturday.

Milford opened the scoring in the 11th minute as Bulelani Sigomoshe surged down the right flank, delivering a low cross that Siphosethu Ndlabi converted with a deft backheel into the goal.

This marked Ndlabi's second goal in the Nedbank Cup this season, having previously scored in the Last 16 win against Mkhambathi.

It represented the first goal conceded by The Rockets in this year's tournament, ending a run of three consecutive shutouts.

The strike arrived contrary to the flow of the match, as Galaxy had begun proceedings strongly, yet the hosts equalised in the 55th minute through veteran Victor Letsoalo.

Letsoalo nodded home from Seluleko Mahlambi's delivery from the left side.

This brought his total Nedbank Cup goals in his career to nine, including one against Marumo Gallants earlier this term.

In the opening semi-final on Saturday, City capitalised on an early own goal from Sphamandla Mlilo to reach their second Nedbank Cup final, having fallen to Free State Stars in the 2018 decider.

Galaxy lifted the trophy seven years back as a second-tier outfit, overcoming Kaizer Chiefs in the Durban final. They now aim for a repeat triumph, whereas City chase their inaugural win in South Africa's FA Cup.
