Thomas Frank targets Tottenham momentum following Dortmund victory

Tottenham manager Thomas Frank stated that Spurs should capitalise on the impetus gained from a 2-0 Champions League triumph against Borussia Dortmund to reverse their poor Premier League results.

Frank was apparently close to dismissal after Saturday's 2-1 defeat at home to West Ham, which dropped Spurs to 14th place in the Premier League.

However, they have excelled in the Champions League, with a fourth successive home win in Europe propelling Frank's squad to fourth and close to securing a spot in the knockout stages.

Tottenham will take on a Burnley team that has not won in 13 league matches this Saturday, in what might be Frank's last game if Spurs do not secure the points.

"We must carry this victory and this display into sustained progress," Frank said to TNT Sports. "We must travel to Burnley, deliver a strong showing and claim the win."

Unlike the supporter backlash at the end of the West Ham match, the Tottenham fans were fully supportive after an encouraging opening from their team.

Cristian Romero netted the opener before Borussia Dortmund's Daniel Svensson received a direct red card.

Dominic Solanke then scored a second on his debut start amid an injury-affected season.

"The first half especially suggested it could be an exceptional evening. The supporters were fantastic and fully supportive of the team, which makes me very pleased," Frank added.

"I appreciated our game start: proactive, intense, upbeat, with two solid goals.

"I would have preferred better ball retention in the second half, but we have not secured as many wins as desired, particularly at home, so crossing the finish line was crucial."

A win against Eintracht Frankfurt in next week's concluding league phase match should ensure Spurs a top-eight position and advancement to the last 16.
