Strasbourg Overcome Crystal Palace in UEFA Conference League Encounter
Crystal Palace endured a 2-1 defeat against Strasbourg in the UEFA Conference League on Thursday, with Liam Rosenior's team staging a comeback to preserve their flawless opening in the tournament.
Tyrick Mitchell put Palace ahead, while Ismaila Sarr came close to extending the advantage by rattling the inside of the post, as Strasbourg custodian Mike Penders found himself far from goal.
Emanuel Emegha levelled for the hosts shortly after the break, slotting home at the far post from Diego Moreira's delivery.
Adam Wharton struck the crossbar for Palace with an open net ahead of him, as Penders was once more exposed following a turnover near the edge of Strasbourg's penalty area.
Penders then made an excellent stop to thwart Yeremy Pino, but Strasbourg countered swiftly and netted when young forward Samir El Mourabet finished the loose ball after Julio Enciso's set piece cannoned off the upright.
Palace manager Oliver Glasner noted that his squad suffered due to squandered opportunities.
"Having an unguarded net on two occasions and striking the woodwork both times means we ought to lead 3-1. We then spurned a clear shot at the goalkeeper, only to concede immediately after," Glasner remarked to TNT Sports.
"This pattern has repeated itself several times this term when we failed to seal the result at key moments."
Strasbourg climbed to 10 points, matching leaders Samsunspor, after the Turkish outfit settled for a 2-2 stalemate on the road against Iceland's Breidablik.
Palace sit 18th in the table with two victories and two reverses from four outings in their debut full European campaign.
They trail the top eight by two points, a position that secures straight passage to the knockout phase. Upcoming fixtures include matches versus Ireland's Shelbourne and Finland's KuPS.
Aberdeen continue without a win following a 1-1 stalemate hosting Armenia's Noah.
