Son rediscovers form as South Korea hammer Trinidad and Tobago in World Cup warm-up

The 33-year-old has faced increasing scrutiny over his declining form, having netted just two goals for his club Los Angeles FC this season.

He had not scored for his country since a friendly against Bolivia in November 2025.

But the skipper found the back of the net again as South Korea comfortably beat the Caribbean side at their training camp in Salt Lake City, Utah, with team-mate Cho Gue-sung also scoring twice.

South Korea are set to face the Czech Republic, South Africa and joint hosts Mexico in Group A and will start their tournament against the Czechs in Guadalajara on June 11th.

Son gave his side the lead five minutes before the break, converting a low cross in the penalty area.

He added a second from the penalty spot shortly afterwards, firing the ball into the bottom corner.

That took his international goal tally to 56 in 144 appearances, two behind Cha Bum-kun's South Korean record.
