Salah hints at possible Liverpool departure after feeling betrayed by club

Mohamed Salah criticised Liverpool manager Arne Slot in a surprising outburst that might signal the close of his storied tenure at Anfield, after accusing the club of throwing him under the bus amid the Premier League title holders recent dip in performance.

The Egyptian forward remained on the substitutes bench for the third game running in Saturdays 3-3 stalemate at Leeds, and Slot did not bring him on at all.

Following next weekends fixture against Brighton at home, Salah is due to head off for the Africa Cup of Nations, and he suggested that could prove to be his last outing in Liverpools colours if picked.

I am extremely disappointed. I have contributed immensely to this team over the years, particularly in the previous campaign, Salah stated to journalists in the mixed zone at Elland Road.

Now I find myself benched without understanding the reason. It feels as though the club has cast me aside to take the fall. That is precisely how I feel. It appears evident that somebody intended for me to shoulder all the criticism.

I received numerous assurances over the summer, yet here I am on the bench for three matches, so I cannot claim they have honoured those commitments. I have repeatedly mentioned my positive rapport with the manager, but abruptly that connection has vanished. I cannot explain why, yet from my perspective it looks like certain individuals do not wish for me to stay at the club.

This team has always had my backing. My family will continue to support it. I hold the club in such high regard, and that will never change. I spoke to my mother yesterday you might not have known if I would feature, but I did.

Yesterday I told my parents, Come to the Brighton match. I am unsure if I will get minutes, but I plan to savour it.

In my mind, I intend to relish that encounter since the future remains uncertain. I will attend Anfield to bid farewell to the supporters and then travel to the Africa Cup. I have no idea what lies ahead during my absence.

Salah ranks as Liverpools third leading scorer ever, with 250 goals across 420 outings for the side.

That said, he has appeared far from his peak form amid Liverpools challenges this term.

Slots squad has secured victory in only two of their past 10 Premier League outings, dropping to eighth place in the standings.
