Rodri leaves possibility of Real Madrid transfer ajar with Manchester City deal nearing end

The 29 year old player from Madrid started his professional journey at Villarreal before joining Atletico Madrid in 2018. He transferred to City the following year and has experienced remarkable success in England since then securing one Champions League trophy and four Premier League crowns along with numerous other significant achievements.

"Would I want to compete in Spain once more in LaLiga specifically in Madrid? I would love to come back yes without a doubt" Rodri stated to Onda Cerós Radioestadio Noche show prior to Spains friendly match versus Serbia on Friday.

"My contract has one year remaining at some stage we will need to meet and discuss matters."

Rodri who is gradually regaining peak condition following his anterior cruciate ligament tear in 2024 mentioned that his previous stint at Atletico would not bar him from switching to their local competitors.

Players from Atletico who previously made that transition include goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois and striker Alvaro Morata.

"Several others have followed that route not immediately but eventually. One cannot reject opportunities at the top clubs globally" Rodri continued.

Rodri also dismissed ideas of tension with Vinicius Jr following Reals absence from the 2024 Ballon dOr event where the City midfielder claimed the prize over the Brazilian forward.

"I believe they aimed to create division between Vinicius and myself but absolutely not" Rodri remarked. "I hold immense admiration for him and for all his accomplishments that season as well. Ultimately it is outsiders third parties who determine the Ballon dOr recipient."
