O'Neill Remains Unsure About His Future at Celtic
Martin O'Neill is still unclear if he will lead Celtic in their next fixture against St Mirren, amid reports that the club has intensified its hunt for a permanent manager.
O'Neill, who achieved significant success in his initial tenure as Celtic manager from 2000 to 2005, came back to Parkhead last month after Brendan Rodgers stepped down due to strained relations with majority shareholder Dermot Desmond.
The 73 year old has served as caretaker for the Scottish champions over the past four matches.
However, O'Neill has consistently highlighted the temporary aspect of his position, and recent reports suggest the Celtic board has been meeting with potential candidates, including French coach Wilfried Nancy from MLS side Columbus Crew, who is in the running for the role at the Glasgow club.
Speaking to BBC Radio Ulster, O'Neill expressed an open view on whether he would remain in charge for the November 22 away game at St Mirren, as the Scottish Premiership resumes post international break.
The former Northern Ireland midfielder stated in a Friday morning broadcast interview, The straightforward and truthful response is that I truly have no idea.
O'Neill, who has guided Celtic to second place in the standings, seven points adrift of leaders Hearts yet with a match in hand, continued: I am not involved in the boards discussions with potential appointees or similar matters, and I prefer not to be, as that has never been part of my responsibilities.
The individuals concerned can decide on candidates without any input from me. I agreed to step in until a successor is found.
And could that happen next week? I really do not know. My role was to steady the ship, and once someone is selected, I will withdraw.
