Mbappe urges Madrid supporters to support Vinicius following jeers

On Monday Kylian Mbappe urged Real Madrid fans to show more support for his teammate Vinicius Junior after the Brazilian faced boos from the crowd at the tense Santiago Bernabeu during the weekend.

Vinicius and Jude Bellingham drew criticism from the home supporters following a tough week that saw defeats to Barcelona in the Super Cup and to second division side Albacete in the Spanish Cup.

Real Madrid also sacked manager Xabi Alonso on the previous Monday.

"Supporters should not target one player for booing none of it is down to Vinicius alone it is our collective responsibility when performances falter" Mbappe stated.

"I was not happy with that at all."

Mbappe hailed Vinicius who just missed winning the Ballon dOr in 2024 as among the top talents globally.

"We need to shield him more effectively so he does not face criticism by himself He has the full backing of the Real Madrid squad we stand united with him" Mbappe added.

Real Madrid will face Ligue 1 side Monaco at the Bernabeu on Tuesday.

The team narrowed the gap to league leaders Barcelona to just one point in La Liga over the weekend thanks to a 2-0 victory against Levante marking the debut win for new head coach Alvaro Arbeloa.
