Lionel Messi nets brace to help Inter Miami beat FC Cincinnati away from home

As the World Cup in North America draws nearer with under a month to go, Argentinas skipper Messi remains in top shape.

He boasts 11 strikes across 12 MLS outings this term, and Miamis recent win has lifted them to second in the Eastern Conference on 25 points.

Messi broke the deadlock in the 24th minute via a lucky rebound from a mishandled clearance by Matt Miazga.

Things stood at 1-1 by the interval following Kevin Denkeys spot-kick in the 41st minute, before Pavel Bucha netted from near range to give the home side a 2-1 lead shortly after the restart.

Messi added his second in the 55th minute, converting a smooth team move with a left-footed effort off a delivery from Rodrigo De Paul.

Cincinnatis Brazilian midfielder Evander restored their advantage with a long-range rocket in the 64th minute, marking his seventh goal over six games.

However Messi provided the assist for a strike by promising compatriot Mateo Silvetti in the 79th minute, followed by Mexico forward German Berterame finding the net once more to make it 4-3.

Messi sparked the decisive goal in the 89th minute.

The 38-year-old threw himself at a cross from Silvetti and connected with his right boot, the effort ricocheting off the upright and looping in via custodian Roman Celentano for an unfortunate own goal.

Miami boss Guillermo Hoyos lavished compliments on his squad.

"Their performance today was outstanding, facing a strong opponent on a challenging surface," he remarked.

"Playing here is incredibly tough. Its evident they are not just cruising through MLS.

"They are committed to competing, pouring in maximum effort, and proving to everyone that proper football thrives here as well."

He continued: "We depart delighted.

"We managed to deliver football of the highest calibre."
