Hojlund criticises press for misrepresenting his Manchester United spell

To those watching from afar, Rasmus Hojlunds transfer to Napoli and return to Serie A looked like an attempt to rediscover his passion for the sport. Yet Hojlund himself says otherwise in a TV2 Sport interview.

"I enjoyed playing football in Manchester. I realise that, particularly in Denmark, the press built a picture suggesting everything was awful and dire, and that my performances were poor, but that is not my view of it", explains the Napoli forward.

"The press has plenty to say in the world of football, and it can be tough to avoid its impact. However, there is far more to the story, which is why I emphasise the need to avoid getting carried away with highs or sinking into lows."

Since joining Napoli for the 2025/26 campaign, Hojlund has been hailed as revitalised under Antonio Conte, scoring 13 goals in various competitions.

By December 2025, he had contributed to Napoli securing the Italian Super Cup, describing the switch as a smart choice after facing limited minutes and inconsistent results in his last year at Manchester United.

Hojlund is set to feature prominently in Denmarks World Cup qualification push during the playoffs next weekend.
