Experienced Danish international goalkeeper brings down curtain on impressive career

FC Midtjylland's experienced goalkeeper Jonas Lossl has decided to end his career, says the Danish club on their website.

"It's a big decision, but it feels right. I have been allowed to live out a dream that has grown especially in recent years: to take the skills that football has given me into other spaces. It gives me great motivation", 37-year-old Lössl tells the website.

He played no less than 264 matches for FC Midtjylland during a career that also saw him in action for Mainz, Guingamp, Huddersfield, Brentford, and Everton.

He only made one international appearance for Denmark, but was included in the Danish squad for two final tournaments.

Lossl came through FC Midtjylland's own academy and was part of the first team from 2008 to 2014. After that, he went abroad before returning to Herning in 2021.

"Jonas is a special figure in the history of FC Midtjylland", says chairman Claus Steinlein to the club's website.

"He was part of our academy from the beginning, proved himself in some of the biggest leagues in the world, and came home with experience, form, and a sincere desire to give back."

Lossl will now occupy a role in the club's administration, where he will help develop and implement new initiatives.

"Putting an end to my time as a player at FC Midtjylland means a lot to me. But it also makes me proud and grateful that the end is not a farewell to the club", says Lössl.
