Dahlin's Heroics Keep AIK at Bay as Malmo Claim Narrow Victory in Solna

Two storied Swedish clubs boasting a combined total of 36 Allsvenskan titles kicked off the current campaign eager to climb back into the top three spots under their fresh Spanish coaches following underwhelming results in 2025. On a more pressing note both teams sought a swift recovery from their initial losses of the season suffered midweek.

Last year neither matchup between these rivals yielded a goal and in the early stages here both outfits targeted the flanks yet solid defending cleared the incoming crosses before AIKs Bersant Celina unleashed the games opening attempt soaring high after just eight minutes.

Moments later Taha Ali weaved through the home rearguard and the loose ball reached Sead Haksabanovic near the box his effort taking a deflection for a corner and from that set piece Malmo recycled possession to the Montenegrin in a similar spot where his driven shot narrowly bent past the upright.

Supporters of AIK have buzzed with anticipation over promising youngster Zadok Yohanna and he delivered a glimpse of his potential on 18 minutes with a sharp strike that forced Johan Dahlin into a smart save followed by the away custodian fingertipping away an Abdihakim Ali shot after the playmaker spun away from his marker with skill.

However right as the hosts appeared to gain the upper hand they trailed in the 25th minute when Otto Rosengren powered into AIKs midfield and though his attempt was thwarted by the stretching Kristoffer Nordfeldt Haksabanovic recycled the ball along the goalline to loft a delivery that Erik Botheim headed home for his second goal this term.

Enthusiastic reactions from Malmo boss Miguel Angel Ramirez ignited fury among the home crowd though once tensions eased AIK seized the initiative nearly levelling when Yohannas attempt looped just beyond the far post and then Amel Mujanics weak effort proved straightforward for Dahlin to gather.

The visitors clearest opportunity to extend their advantage prior to the interval arrived via a fierce angled shot from Yanis Karabelyov yet national team stalwart Nordfeldt plunged low to deny it though the slim margin held firm at the break with Dahlin later smothering Mujanics run after a pass from Taha Ayari.

Remarkably the home side had failed to net against Malmo in their previous five encounters and their attempts to break that streak in the second halfs opening quarter came to naught despite mounting pressure as they struggled to breach the Himmelsblå backline. As the away team eventually advanced AIK grew irritable with Mujanic cautioned for a challenge on Ali.

That said Malmo seemed exposed defensively gifting possession to replacement Erik Flataker on the penalty areas fringe and though his shot was repelled Yohannas rebound flew wide. Rosengren emerged as the saviour near the hour with two vital clearances within the goalmouth.

As the closing quarter approached a Celina blast seemed netbound until Andrej Djuric nodded it away and soon the Kosovo international chased a lofted pass but Dahlin narrowed the angle to block the finish.

The dying stages brought relentless pressure on Malmo with a mishit clearance from Dahlin offering Ibrahim Cisse a volley that the keeper then reclaimed while the defender doubling as an emergency striker saw his firm header palmed to safety and the veteran enhanced his case for match standout by clawing away a bobbling effort from Aron Csongvai just outside the box.

In the depths of five added minutes Yohanna appeared to have rescued a draw for AIK yet Dahlin proved impenetrable once more sprawling to direct the shot around the upright allowing Malmo to endure a frantic rearguard action and depart the national arena with a full haul of points.

This marks AIKs initial home defeat under Jose Riveiro leaving them with seven points from their games to date while Malmo hit ten after five outings.
