Curaçao enhances World Cup prospects by beating Jamaica
Curaçao improved their prospects of qualifying for the World Cup for the first time on Friday thanks to a 2-0 win against Jamaica in the CONCACAF qualifiers.
Livano Comenencia and Kenji Gorre scored the goals at Ergilio Hato Stadium in Willemstad securing a well earned triumph that positioned the Caribbean underdogs at the top of Group B.
The team is managed by experienced Dutch coach Dick Advocaat the 78 year old aiming to guide a side to the World Cup for a third occasion following his successes with the Netherlands in the 1998 finals and South Korea in the 2006 competition.
The win against Jamaica on Friday positions Curaçao at the summit of their group with seven points from three matches one point ahead of the runners up Jamaicans who sit on six points.
Trinidad and Tobago occupy third place in the group with four points following a solid 3-0 victory over Bermuda on Friday.

In other action on Friday Suriname maintained momentum in their unlikely qualification bid drawing 1-1 with Guatemala at home in Group A.
Darwin Lom struck a volley for Guatemala in the 75th minute yet Suriname equalised in the fourth minute of added time via a scrappy effort from Virgil Misidjan.
This outcome sees Suriname leading the group with five points from three outings edging out Panama on goal difference. Panama bolstered their qualification hopes with a 1-0 victory away to El Salvador on Friday.
As CONCACAF powerhouses the United States Mexico and Canada secure spots in the 2026 World Cup as joint hosts three additional direct qualifications remain available for other teams in the confederation.
The winners of the three groups in the final qualification stage will advance to next years event while the two highest placed runners up will proceed to the inter confederation play offs.
