CAF announces schedule and qualification process for 2027 Africa Cup of Nations

The event, jointly hosted by Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania, is scheduled to occur from 19 June to 17 July 2027.

This represents only the second instance of the continental championship taking place in the June-July slot, following the 2019 version, which should ease concerns for European clubs by avoiding player absences during the season.

CAF has not disclosed the location for the opening fixture or, more importantly, the decisive final.

Qualifying rounds will span three FIFA international periods, kicking off later this year, with the draw set for 19 May.

Matchdays 1 and 2 fall within the 21 September-6 October window, followed by Matchdays 3 and 4 across 9-17 November.

Following an interval, the process wraps up with Matchdays 5 and 6 from 22-30 March 2027.

For qualification, the remaining 48 teams will form 12 groups of four, allowing the leading two from each to progress to the 24-team finals.

The three host countries secure automatic spots yet will join the qualifiers, resulting in just one extra team advancing from their respective groups.
