Brobbeys Impressive Run at Sunderland Elevates His Bid for Netherlands World Cup Spot

The forward from Sunderland is poised to lead the line for the Netherlands on Thursday when they welcome Norway for a pre World Cup friendly at the Amsterdam Arena following the withdrawal of usual striker Memphis Depay due to an injury.

His displays in the Premier League have impressed manager Ronald Koeman and the 24 year olds comeback to the national team arrives at an ideal moment with the World Cup tournament just a few months distant.

"I believe I required a fresh challenge" Brobbey commented regarding his transfer from Ajax after a disappointing period in the Eredivisie.

Brobbey grabbed the winning goal for Sunderland in their weekend derby versus Newcastle United and garnered significant commendation for his efforts.

The key factor according to Netherlands coach Ronald Koeman lies in Brobbey being "far more physically prepared" than during his Ajax days.

"In the Netherlands players can contribute meaningfully even when not at peak fitness but that simply does not happen in the Premier League" Koeman remarked during Mondays press briefing.

"This stems partly from his current club. Sunderland are thriving and they emphasise total commitment right up to the final whistle which contrasts sharply with the approach in the Netherlands."

Brobbey concurred. "I am participating in far more games now so my body has adapted to the demands" he explained to Dutch broadcaster NOS.

"Premier League action is more demanding on the body yet it fits my style perfectly as I now face robust centre backs."

Brobbey has also sharpened his goal scoring instincts. "Within our squad opportunities are limited to just one or two per game so they must be converted which hones your precision in the box whereas at Ajax I would typically see four or five shots per match.

"Naturally I aim to perform at my peak and find the net" he stated about his goals for the Netherlands this week. They will also take on Ecuador in Eindhoven on Tuesday.

"Being the main forward for the Oranje would be incredible and I am putting in the effort to achieve it" Brobbey concluded.
