Arsenal well positioned as Arteta celebrates six years in charge

Mikel Arteta feels his overhaul at Arsenal has positioned the Gunners to claim significant silverware while marking his sixth anniversary as head coach.

A win against Arteta's old team Everton this Saturday would ensure Arsenal lead the Premier League over the Christmas period, targeting their first championship since the 2003/04 campaign.

An early FA Cup triumph is the sole major honour Arteta has secured so far, yet he has rebuilt Arsenal into genuine Premier League challengers and consistent Champions League participants.

Arsenal missed out on a top four spot in the Premier League for six years straight from 2017 to 2022, but they have finished runners up in the last three seasons.

"The changes have impacted the whole club, from its scale and income to the team we assembled, its worth, and the achievements on the pitch, despite not lifting any big prizes yet," Arteta stated on Friday.

"I believe it is solid and steady, so we are in a good spot."

Arsenal hold a two point advantage over Manchester City atop the standings, although the margin has shrunk lately, with stalemates versus Sunderland and Chelsea plus a rare second loss this term against Aston Villa.

Arteta's squad faces a tough holiday stretch, featuring six fixtures from December 20 through to January 8.

The 43 year old knows exactly what he desires for the festive season.

"Triumph in every match, triumph in every match, triumph in every match," he remarked.

"The other bits will follow on their own, but my spirits and drive will soar higher if we succeed, so that is my goal."
