Young Real Madrid forward Endrick eyes national team comeback through Lyon loan spell
The promising Brazilian talent Endrick expressed on Monday his desire for the loan move to Lyon to pave the way for a comeback with the Brazil national team ahead of the World Cup.
During the opening months of the season, the 19 year old only featured for 99 minutes with Real Madrid, unable to persuade the clubs new manager Xabi Alonso to grant him the same level of trust he received under Carlo Ancelotti in the previous campaign.
In 2024, the year he transferred to Spain from his home club Palmeiras, Endrick earned 11 caps for Brazil, yet in 2025 he has only appeared once for the national outfit.
My goal is to contribute to Lyon, secure playing time and secure victories, Endrick shared with journalists prior to his anticipated first appearance for the Ligue 1 outfit against Lille in the French Cup this weekend.
For any Brazilian, representing the national team is a lifelong aspiration.
I have not been selected of late, but I am committed to earning my place back.
The enthusiasts at Lyon have shown immense enthusiasm for Endricks signing, reminiscent of the buzz around his fellow Brazilian Sonny Anderson in 1999 or the French midfielder Yoann Gourcuff in 2010.
He possesses tremendous skill and promise. He is fast, adept at breaking through defences and sharp in converting opportunities with his instinctive finishing, commented Lyons technical director Matthieu Louis Jean.
Lyon secured a 3-1 victory away to Monaco on Saturday, maintaining their fifth position in the standings, merely two points shy of the top four spots that could lead to Champions League participation.
We firmly believe Endrick represents the missing piece for us, and he will inject vitality into the squad for the latter part of the season, stated general manager Michael Gerlinger.
