Yohanna Stars for AIK in Victory as Malmo Draw Against Promoted Orgryte
AIK 2-1 Halmstad
The Solna outfit experienced a sharp decline towards the end of the previous campaign, missing European qualification, yet AIK kicked off strongly with a win under fresh manager Jose Riveiro.
In the middle of the opening period, a free kick delivered into the penalty area saw Aron Csongvai head it onto the upright by Zadok Yohanna, who swiftly reacted to the loose ball as Ibrahim Cisse poked it over the line.
The scoreline held at 1-0 until the 64th minute, when Halmstad, predicted by experts to face challenges this term, equalised after a delivery into the box was headed downwards by Malte Persson for Osto Liimatta to strike it goalwards, aided by a significant deflection.
However, just seven minutes shy of the final whistle, Riveiro's squad secured the result they sought as Yohanna drifted in from the right flank, evaded a pair of opponents, and fired the ball into the net from an acute position.
After netting three times during the Svenska Cupen group phase last month, this marks an ideal debut goal in the Allsvenskan for the young 18-year-old.
Orgryte 1-1 Malmo
Following a deeply underwhelming 2025 season, Malmo displayed scant progress in the initial fixture beneath new head coach Miguel Angel Ramirez, requiring a comeback effort on the road versus promoted Orgryte, marking their first elite division outing since 2009.
The contest paused on two occasions due to fan disturbances involving authorities at Gamla Ullevi, but the unrest shifted to celebration for the hosts midway through the second half, as a lengthy throw into the area evaded clearance from the Malmo defence, allowing Anton Andreasson to convert at the front post.
That said, the reigning champions avoided embarrassment in the 73rd minute, albeit only thanks to Orgryte custodian Hampus Gustafsson, who let Noah Astrand John's effort slip through to Erik Botheim for a simple finish to level affairs.
Kalmar 0-1 Vasteras
The pair who finished first and second in last season's Superettan may not have relished an early reunion upon returning to the Allsvenskan, but title holders Vasteras feel content after securing a slim triumph on enemy territory.
The solitary strike arrived shortly after 11 minutes, with the away team advancing along the left before Marcus Baggeson's driven cross was turned towards his own net by Achraf Dari, and Zakarias Ravik's inability to clear it from the line confirmed it as an unfortunate own goal.
Kalmar controlled proceedings thereafter, holding greater ball control and unleashing 16 attempts compared to Vasteras' mere four, though just three found the target and without clear openings, they must sharpen their accuracy to avoid relegation worries this year.
Vasteras saw Jonathan Ring dismissed for a second yellow card, yet the sending off occurred late in stoppage time, leaving Kalmar insufficient opportunity to capitalise on the numerical edge.
