Yaya Touré appointed as manager of Slovakian club Slovan Bratislava

The 43-year-old Yaya Touré has signed a three-year contract in the Slovak capital.

"I am really delighted and enthusiastic. Honestly, I cannot wait to start working together on Monday," Touré said in a club statement.

"I want to build upon that whilst also adding my own new and unique ideas. Football means everything to me. I adore challenges and am extremely excited to coach a great club with a rich history, a beautiful stadium, and high ambitions."

The Slovan Bratislava role will be Touré's first as head coach of a senior side since retiring in 2020. He has previously served as an assistant at Olimpik Donetsk in Ukraine, Akhmat Grozny in Russia, Standard Liège in Belgium, and most recently with the Saudi Arabian national team alongside Roberto Mancini, under whose guidance Touré won the Premier League with Manchester City in 2012.

Club chairman Ivan Kmotrik Jr described the appointment of Yaya Touré as the start of a new era for the 24-time Nike Liga champions.

"I am delighted that Yaya Touré has become our new head coach," Smotrik said.

"I am glad we have agreed on a three-year contract and that together we will start building a new era for Slovan Bratislava. My aim was to bring in someone with experience at the highest level of world football, and who is also highly motivated to establish himself as a coach."

Touré faces a difficult beginning as Slovan Bratislava will discover their opponent for the Champions League second qualifying round during the draw in Nyon on 17 June.
