Wolves dismiss Pereira following winless opening to Premier League season

Wolves dismissed head coach Vitor Pereira on Sunday following a failure to secure any victories in the initial 10 Premier League matches.

Pereira agreed to a fresh three-year contract in September after leading the Wanderers to survival the previous season.

That said, accumulating only two points thus far in this campaign has placed the clubs eight-year tenure in the top division under grave threat.

A 3-0 loss away to Fulham on Saturday positioned Wolves eight points clear of the safety zone, rooted at the foot of the standings.

"Wolves have separated from head coach Vitor Pereira, following a trophyless beginning to the 2025/26 season," the club announced in an official statement.

"When he joined Molineux last December, Pereira along with his coaching staff delivered swift results, steering the side through a prosperous latter portion of the Premier League schedule.

"Yet, outcomes and displays this year have not met the required levels, prompting the need for new direction."

Having ended the prior term in 16th place, Pereira faced challenges from the exit of key striker Matheus Cunha to Manchester United, plus the departures of wing-backs Rayan Ait-Nouri to Manchester City and Nelson Semedo to Fenerbahce during the summer transfer window.

Supporter discontent has grown against the Chinese proprietors Fosun regarding what they see as insufficient spending on team reinforcements.

Pereira initially enjoyed widespread backing from fans during his first months, frequently joining them in nearby pubs to mark wins.

However, that bond deteriorated this term, culminating in him needing protection after a heated exchange with irate fans post the 3-2 setback against Burnley last weekend.

"Regrettably, the onset of this season proved underwhelming and, although we were keen to afford the head coach additional opportunities to turn things around, we now find ourselves compelled to act," stated Wolves executive chairman Jeff Shi.
