Wayne Rooney on the verge of tears as sibling orchestrates landmark FA Cup triumph

Wayne Rooney felt overwhelming pride upon witnessing his younger brother John Rooneys Macclesfield side oust the defending champions Crystal Palace from the FA Cup this Saturday.

Macclesfield marked a historic milestone as the inaugural sixth-tier club to eliminate Premier League rivals securing a 2-1 victory at their Moss Rose stadium.

The staggering 117 position gap between the teams in the English football league structure represents the greatest disparity ever bridged by a lower division outfit in FA Cup annals.

"Im feeling quite moved" stated ex England skipper Wayne Rooney who joined the BBCs broadcast panel.

"Watching my little brother who has only recently taken up management duties overcome a top flight club Its incredible Im bursting with pride.

"This is a massive accomplishment What he pulled off today is truly outstanding."

The extraordinary success carried extra weight for the Silkmen following the tragic loss of striker Ethan McLeod just weeks earlier.

The 21 year old McLeod perished while returning from the teams match against Bedford on December 16.

"I received a touching note from his father yesterday and considered sharing it with the players or mentioning it pre match but I chose not to add that extra layer of stress given our recent hardships" explained John Rooney.

"Instead I decided to hold off until afterwards We also plan to visit his family soon Its been an incredibly difficult period.

"The squad has remained united throughout Its never going to become any less painful We still have his photos displayed in the dressing room and they will stay there forever."
