Veikkausliiga leaders Inter Turku triumph in derby but KuPS and Oulu remain close contenders
Inter Turku 2 1 TPS
The first top division Turku derby since 2020 was claimed by Inter Turku, securing their fourth consecutive victory while handing TPS successive losses after their initial unbeaten run.
FC Inter created early opportunities before breaking the deadlock in the 15th minute. Elmo Henriksson managed to touch Alie Conteh's header from Clinton Jephta's cross but couldn't stop the forward from netting his fourth goal of the season.
TPS responded strongly in the following 15 minutes, culminating in a spectacular equaliser in the 29th minute. Elmer Vauhkonen set up Lasse Ikonen, who fired an unstoppable long range effort into the top corner.
The game shifted momentum again as Inter reclaimed the lead four minutes before halftime. Henriksson failed to collect Loic Essomba's cross, leaving Jasse Tuominen with a straightforward headed finish.
Despite TPS pushing for an equaliser after the break, a combination of resolute defending, errant finishing and smart goalkeeping from Henriksson ensured Inter's narrow victory could have been more comprehensive.
Inter Turku now sit on 23 points from 10 matches, while TPS drop to sixth with 12 points from eight games.
KuPS 2 1 Lahti
KuPS maintained pressure on the leaders with a come from behind victory over Lahti. Otso Koskinen's early opener was cancelled out by Otto Ruoppi's penalty and Brahima Magassa's strike. KuPS remain second with consecutive wins while Lahti extend their winless run to four matches.
SJK 0 1 AC Oulu
AC Oulu stayed within touching distance of the top two with Julius Korkko's first half strike proving decisive. The visitors recorded their third win in four while struggling SJK remain second bottom with just one victory this term.
Jaro 3 0 Mariehamn
Jaro comfortably dispatched fellow strugglers Mariehamn to climb off the foot of the table. Ville Vuorinen and Herman Sjogrell struck early before Rudi Vikstrom's late third sealed a comprehensive win.
Ilves 2 0 Gnistan
Ilves secured only their second win of the campaign in a match featuring two red cards. Jardell Kanga's penalty and Teemu Hytonen's late strike overcame Gnistan despite both sides being reduced to ten men.
