Tottenham Bench Kinsky After Pair of Costly Blunders in 17 Minutes
Tottenham's goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky was taken off after only 17 minutes during the Champions League round of 16 opening match versus Atletico Madrid on Wednesday, following two blunders that resulted in goals.
Tottenham trailed 3-0 within the first 15 minutes at the Metropolitano against Diego Simeone's team, with every goal stemming from defensive lapses.
Manager Igor Tudor chose the 22-year-old Czech shot-stopper Kinsky, who had been sidelined since October, ahead of Guglielmo Vicario following a run of five consecutive Premier League losses.
Yet Kinsky lost his footing and lost possession in the sixth minute, allowing Marcos Llorente to net the opener.
Following Micky van de Ven's slip which let Antoine Griezmann grab the second, Kinsky faltered once more.
The keeper mishandled a pass and Julian Alvarez strolled the ball into an empty goal.
Tudor introduced Vicario in place of Kinsky, who received cheers from the delighted Atletico supporters as he left the pitch.
