Thomas Tuchel ready to extend England role through to 2028 per report
Thomas Tuchel, the England national football team manager, is poised to agree a fresh deal keeping the German at the helm until 2028, as claimed by a piece in The Times.
The Football Association, which runs England, plans to release news on the ex-Chelsea managers situation later on Thursday.
Ahead of the upcoming World Cup in North America this year, prolonging his tenure shows the FAs strong faith in Tuchel to lead the mens squad to their initial major honour in 60 years.
Appointed as Gareth Southgates replacement back in October 2024, Tuchel stated in his debut post appointment chat that his aim was to secure a second star on the England jersey via victory at the 2026 North American World Cup.
Englands sole major success came in 1966 when they lifted the World Cup trophy on home turf, beating West Germany in the Wembley showdown.
Under Tuchel, the England side sailed through qualifying with victories in every one of their eight group games against Albania, Serbia, Latvia and Andorra.
Yet the World Cup brings sterner challenges, including a potential last sixteen clash with co hosts Mexico on their patch if England finish top of their pool, followed possibly by a quarter final versus Brazil, winners on five occasions.
Speculation links Tuchel to the full time job at Manchester United after Ruben Amorims dismissal, despite recent improvements under interim chief Michael Carrick.
However, committing to a renewed England pact would prevent any shift to Old Trafford following the World Cup.
