Thomas Frank Teeters on the Edge as Romero Urges Unity During Spurs Crisis
Thomas Frank faces the risk of dismissal after discussions about his position as Tottenham manager reportedly took place among the club's leaders on Sunday.
Supporters of Tottenham demanded Frank's removal following their disappointing 2-1 defeat at home to West Ham, a team battling relegation.
This marked Tottenham's third consecutive loss and their eighth setback in 14 outings, placing Frank perilously close to the exit only seven months into his tenure after moving from Brentford.
Tottenham skipper Cristian Romero acknowledged that the squad is enduring a "disaster moment", and Sunday reports indicated that the north London outfit's decision-makers had convened to consider Frank's future.
Merely half a season on from his appointment at Brentford, where he was seen as one of the Premier League's brightest managerial prospects, Frank is nervously anticipating the outcome that could determine if he keeps his job.
Tottenham have secured just a single victory in their previous eight fixtures and have exited both the FA Cup and League Cup competitions.
They sit 11th in the Champions League group stage prior to a vital home clash with Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday, as they vie for progression to the knockout rounds.
Currently 14th in the Premier League standings with only seven triumphs from 22 league encounters this term, Tottenham appear to have performed even more poorly under Frank than they did with his predecessor, Ange Postecoglou.
Postecoglou departed at the conclusion of the prior campaign, despite lifting the club's 17-year wait for silverware by clinching the Europa League, which secured Champions League qualification.
Tottenham finished 17th in the Premier League the previous year, yet Postecoglou's forward-thinking approach at least offered excitement, unlike Frank's more cautious and defensive strategy.
Romero, who netted during the defeat to West Ham, was candid in calling on his teammates to remain cohesive.
The Argentine defender stated: "Clearly another defeat, and a match at home too, but for me, just one message for the supporters, thank you for always supporting us.
"It is tough, and it is indeed a disaster phase for the team, yet right now especially, we require quiet.
"Return to training tomorrow, train diligently every day, and keep united. In three days, there is another major fixture, and during this period, it is all about focus and intense effort."
Romero feels that a victory against Dortmund for Tottenham could shift momentum, provided Frank remains at the helm by that point.
"This is a challenging time, akin to a catastrophe, but in the Champions League, we possess another significant chance to potentially triumph and reach the top eight to advance further. That is the key priority," he added.
