Teenager Erica Meg Parkinson called up to England squad for Women's World Cup qualifiers

The 17 year old Parkinson, born in Singapore and playing her club football with Portuguese top flight team Valadares Gaia, joins Sarina Wiegmans senior England side for the first time after coming up through the junior levels.

She appeared with the U23 group for games versus Norway and the United States last year, and England boss Wiegman has now brought her into the main team.

Arsenal attacker Beth Mead is back among the 23 selected players having sat out the latest internationals because of a stress fracture in her shin.

Manchester City leader Alex Greenwood was also sidelined for the triumphs against Ukraine and Iceland with an injury, but she has healed and returns to the lineup.

In contrast, Aggie Beever Jones, Grace Clinton and Ella Toone are absent through injury.

The Lionesses will meet world champions Spain at Wembley on Tuesday 14 April, then head to Reykjavik to face Iceland four days on.

This matchup against Spain is the initial one between the countries since the Euro 2025 final, during which Wiegmans squad claimed consecutive European crowns.

Spain moreover were the opponents who overcame England in the 2023 World Cup final in Sydney.

The 2027 Womens World Cup tournament is set for Brazil, spanning from 24 June to 25 July.
