Szoboszlai cautions that clock is ticking for Liverpool in Champions League pursuit

Dominik Szoboszlai feels that Liverpool are short on time in their push for Champions League spots following another instance of losing points right at the end of a game.

The Hungarian skipper explained that he gets why plenty of supporters headed out of Anfield prematurely, with some even exiting prior to Richarlison's 90th minute strike that rescued a 1-1 Premier League stalemate for beleaguered Tottenham on Sunday, yet he encouraged them to support Arne Slot's team.

A fair number of those who stayed booed at the whistle after the current Premier League title holders Liverpool squandered an opportunity to overtake Aston Villa for fourth position.

They managed to climb one spot and pick up a single point on Chelsea, although shipping a goal in the 90th minute or beyond for the eighth occasion this term was expensive.

"Thats an interesting point. If I had the solution Id head straight to the squad and tell them," stated Szoboszlai regarding why Liverpool keep conceding late in matches.

"A few weeks back we discussed it among ourselves and said fellas we are low on time to get this sorted so we must rally and begin performing the way we aim to for Champions League football next year," noted the Hungarian leader, who opened the scoring for Liverpool versus Spurs with a first half free kick.

"Its a tad repetitive when I mention it but we must discover a fix as we are pressed for time."

The playmaker conceded that Liverpool failed to give the fans much to celebrate following his fourth free kick goal this season, but he pressed them to remain until the end, pointing out that early exits catch the players attention.

"Im not claiming they cant depart the ground, they are free to go if they choose," he remarked. "We rely on them and they ought to realise that. We feel the absence keenly.

"Its only fitting that during tough periods we unite more closely since thats essential, we require one another.

"Our goal is to bring joy to them, its not deliberate. Last season every match was a pleasure to view but this year it might not be as thrilling, absolutely, I understand that.

"I reckon it does not aid us when after 80 minutes folks begin leaving for home, it hinders us greatly. Stay with us."
