Strasbourg manager Rosenior in talks with Chelsea executives according to reports

Liam Rosenior held discussions with Chelseas sporting directors on Monday in preparation for his potential role as head coach, as stated by UK media sources.

The Strasbourg manager reportedly made the trip to London to confer with Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart, while Chelsea aims to appoint a replacement for Enzo Maresca, who departed the club on Thursday, without delay.

The ex-Hull City boss stands as the top choice for Chelseas fourth full-time manager since the ownership group BlueCo, which also oversees Strasbourg, assumed control of the Premier League outfit back in 2022.

After the 1-1 stalemate away at Manchester City on Sunday, temporary head coach Calum McFarlane mentioned he anticipated leading first-team sessions on Monday, though his role would not last much longer than that.

British coach Rosenior, who steered Strasbourg to a seventh position in the previous campaign, emerged as a prime contender for the Stamford Bridge job following Chelseas decision to part ways with Italian Maresca on New Years Day.

Chelsea expressed dissatisfaction over Marescas conversations with City regarding a possible takeover from Pep Guardiola at seasons end, along with indications that he leveraged such a prospect during talks for a contract extension.

Additionally, there was disagreement about Marescas power to disregard medical teams recommendations when reintegrating injured players.

That said, Rosenior would operate within comparable constraints, as responsibilities like signing players fall mainly to the clubs five-member sporting directors group.

Chelsea boasts an extensive roster of youthful talents lacking extensive elite experience, and Maresca appeared frustrated by the frequent changes in his lineup.

Rosenior has achieved notable results with a comparable young group at Strasbourg, guiding them through to the knockout stages of the Europa Conference League.
