South Koreas womens football team warns of boycott ahead of Asian Cup due to unfair treatment

The womens national football squad of South Korea has issued a warning of boycotting upcoming matches before the Asian Cup in March, pointing to discriminatory conditions supplied by the national football governing body, as disclosed in documents on Tuesday.

The Korea Professional Footballers Association released a combined declaration co signed by the players, which was submitted to the Korea Football Association or KFA last September, raising concerns about substandard conditions during international assignments.

The declaration highlighted that athletes endure tiring extended bus rides and economy flights, plus they are made to reside in unsuitable lodging distant from practice facilities.

Additionally it noted that players need to cover their own expenses for elements such as airport transport and practice equipment.

Dated 26 September the declaration stated that athletes would refuse to take part in fixtures and halt involvement in every training session connected to the forthcoming 2026 AFC Womens Asian Cup unless the KFA replied by 17 October.

An official from the KFA informed AFP on Tuesday that the body has been evaluating gradual enhancements internally and debating the matter within since acquiring the declaration.

The 12 team Womens Asian Cup is set to occur in Australia between 1 and 21 March.

South Korea finds itself placed in an opening group alongside Australia Iran and the Philippines.

The athletes declaration mentioned that for numerous years womens national team members have quietly tolerated inadequate and illogical circumstances supported only by their sense of duty as national athletes.

It pointed out evident and indisputable contrasts with the provisions available to the mens national squad.
