Sonia Bompastor signs contract extension with Chelsea Women amid tough times
On Friday, Sonia Bompastor, manager of Chelsea Women, agreed to a contract extension lasting until 2030, even as the title holders face ongoing challenges.
Chelsea appears likely to lose the Women's Super League crown for the first time in half a decade, following a crushing 5-1 loss to top side Manchester City over the weekend.
Despite this, Bompastor, who arrived from Lyon in 2024 after Emma Hayes moved to coach the United States women's national side, has secured a fresh agreement.
"This extension underlines our trust in her guidance, strategy, and the steadiness she provides to the team. Plenty remains at stake this year while we push to claim every key prize," stated Chelsea's sporting directors Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley.
The 45 year old Bompastor delivered a domestic triple in her initial campaign of 2024-2025, triumphing in the FA Cup, League Cup, and Women's Super League.
That said, Chelsea's form has dipped this term, leaving them 12 points off Manchester City with eight fixtures still to come.
Bompastor would not concede that the championship fight is finished, declaring: "Team achievements stem from our grit, toughness, and drive, accepting no outcome short of success.
"Numerous challenges lie ahead, we compete across four competitions, and we shall pour all our efforts in daily to honour our fans."
