Slot happy to welcome Salah back to Liverpool following AFCON
Arne Slot expressed that he would be pleased to see Mohamed Salah return to Liverpool, regardless of having numerous forwards available, as the Egyptian striker approaches his comeback from the Africa Cup of Nations.
Salah is scheduled to feature in Egypts third place playoff against Nigeria in Morocco this Saturday.
His upcoming arrival has sparked significant discussion, particularly after his candid interview in early December where he criticised the club.
Salah claimed Liverpool had left him exposed after being omitted from the starting lineup for three consecutive matches and mentioned having no rapport with manager Slot.
However, he came on as a substitute during a 2-0 Premier League victory over Brighton on December 13, delivering an assist, and Slot later noted that the team had put the incident behind them.
Slot, with his side in fourth position, will face a challenging Burnley team at home this Saturday, and during his pre match press briefing, he addressed questions on Salahs return.
"To begin with, he must compete in another crucial match for Egypt this Saturday," the Dutch coach stated.
"After that, he rejoins us, and I am delighted about it. Mo has played a vital role for this club and for me personally, so I am glad he is returning.
"Even with 15 forwards at my disposal, I would still be thrilled for him to come back, though that is not our present scenario. Thus, I am eager to have him after that key fixture he still needs to fulfil."
Salah netted 29 Premier League goals to secure the Golden Boot last term, helping Liverpool claim their 20th English league championship in dominant fashion, yet he has only scored four league goals so far this season.
When queried on when Salah might be ready for selection, Slot responded.
"Starting next week," he indicated. "We are discussing with him regarding his commitments there and our expectations here.
"Primarily though, he has that significant game on Saturday ahead, and come next week, he will be with us again."
Liverpool are set to play Roberto de Zerbis Marseille in the Champions League on Wednesday, prior to their away trip to Bournemouth the following weekend.
The Premier League title holders saw their campaign falter with six losses in seven league outings from late September onwards.
Nevertheless, Slot has restored stability, and the team remains unbeaten across 11 matches in various competitions now.
