Slot blames Liverpool for their own downturn after Leeds grab late draw
Arne Slot believes Liverpool are solely responsible for squandering yet another pair of Premier League points following Leeds' late 3-3 comeback at Elland Road.
The Reds twice seemed dominant, surging to a 2-0 lead with goals from Hugo Ekitike, and even regained the upper hand after Leeds equalised at 2-2 via Dominic Szoboszlai's effort.
Yet again, Slot's side proved susceptible to set-pieces, as Ao Tanaka netted from a corner right at the end of added time.
Liverpool have secured only two victories in their past 10 league outings and four across 15 matches in all tournaments, ramping up the scrutiny on Slot even after his championship success in his first year at Anfield.
"This is not the initial occasion we have lost points, nor the first time we have shipped a goal in the dying moments or from a dead-ball situation," Slot remarked.
"We alone bear the fault. Scoring three times ought to secure victory, particularly when we allow few opportunities."
Slot kept Mohamed Salah sidelined for a third match running and chose not to deploy the Egyptian from the bench.
The club's priciest acquisition, Alexander Isak, sat out too, though Slot's choice to field Ekitike ahead of the Swede paid off with the Frenchman's contributions.
Salah will head to the Africa Cup of Nations following Liverpool's upcoming pair of fixtures, and Slot avoided speculation on the all-time third-leading scorer's long-term prospects.
"In this match, I sensed we required alternative personnel to seal the result," the Dutch coach explained regarding Salah's omission.
"We must embrace our current circumstances. Regarding Mo's immediate horizon, he departs for the AFCON, but we face Inter Milan and Brighton beforehand."
