Senegal's match-winning midfielder concedes AFCON final pitch abandonment was an error
Senegals Pape Gueye discussed his sides decision to leave the field during the Africa Cup of Nations final and Moroccos failed penalty kick in a chat on French TV on Sunday.
The midfielder netted the decisive strike as Senegal narrowly defeated Morocco 1-0 after extra time in a heated encounter in Rabat last week.
A late spot kick awarded to Morocco prompted the champions elect to temporarily walk away causing a 20 minute hold up.
Upon returning Brahim Diaz botched the effort while Gueye found the net later in extra time.
"Humans make errors we recognised ours and resumed play" noted the 26 year old Gueye.
"Errors happen to everyone" he continued.
Gueye commended ex Liverpool forward Sadio Mane for staying put and encouraging his colleagues to rejoin for the penalty.
Senegal had been incensed by an earlier goal ruled out over what seemed a minor infringement.
"His words hit the mark perfectly highlighting his value to the squad" Gueye remarked.
"We are deeply grateful to him."
Gueye was taken aback that Diaz opted for a cheeky panenka which spectacularly failed.
"That took guts I wouldnt have tried it" he commented.
Moroccos football body has lodged a complaint about the incident and fan conduct with the Confederation of African Football which runs AFCON and with FIFA.
