Senegal alongside Everton midfielder Gueye prepared to return AFCON awards to calm relations
Senegal secured a 1-0 victory over Morocco via extra time in the January showdown held in Rabat, yet CAF imposed sanctions on them last week due to their 15 minute departure from the pitch amid the game, nullifying the outcome and granting Morocco a 3-0 success along with the championship as the hosting nation.
"I myself pledge to gather those medals and perhaps hand them over to Morocco should it help soothe the strains between our nations," Gueye shared with Canal+ on Saturday, following his club Everton's 3-0 Premier League success against Chelsea.
"This situation is absurd... victories in football occur on the field, precisely as we managed in Morocco.
"We fulfilled our duties during the contest, securing that triumph.
"We merit the status of African title holders. In our view, we hold the African crown. Championships are earned through play, not administrative rulings."
Gueye, serving as Senegal's leader in the AFCON decider instead of the banned Kalidou Koulibaly, expressed disagreement with his national body's choice to challenge CAF's verdict through the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
"Were it my call, I would advise the federation against pursuing the appeal," he remarked.
The premier continental football clash on January 18 erupted into disorder as Senegal's squad exited the field in objection after the home team received a disputed spot kick near the end of added time in the second half.
Action recommenced following fifteen minutes of disarray and unease, during which Senegal fans hurled items and attempted to access the playing area.
Morocco's Brahim Diaz failed to convert his spot kick, prior to Senegal clinching the win courtesy of Pape Gueye's strike in the additional period.
