Semenyo declares desire to 'rewrite history once more' following Man City switch
Antoine Semenyo stated on Friday that he aims to "rewrite history again" at Manchester City following his transfer from Bournemouth for an estimated £65 million ($87 million).
The 26 year old, who netted 10 Premier League goals this term, has agreed to a five and a half year contract at the Etihad, representing a significant boost to their forward line.
Liverpool, Manchester United, and Tottenham had also shown interest in the London born Ghanaian, whose buyout clause was set to lapse on Saturday.
This high profile deal marks the initial big transaction among Premier League sides during the January transfer period.
"Over the past ten years, I have followed City under Pep Guardiola, where they have dominated the Premier League and accomplished remarkable feats in the Champions League, FA Cup, and League Cup," Semenyo remarked.
"They maintain the utmost standards, featuring elite players, top tier facilities, and one of the all time great managers in Pep."
The forward expressed his wish to contribute to Citys revival after a trophyless campaign last year and the exit of several key figures.
"I sense my development continuing, yet there are numerous young talents here poised to excel," he added.
"I aim to join that group and rewrite history once more."
His last contribution for Bournemouth after three seasons came via a stunning injury time goal in Wednesdays 3 2 triumph over Tottenham.
Having lost their Premier League crown to Liverpool last season, City have acquired Semenyo to strengthen their pursuit of honours across four competitions in 2026.
Guardiolas squad lags six points behind Arsenal in the Premier League standings while remaining in contention for the FA Cup, League Cup, and Champions League.
Citys choices on the flanks are presently restricted, with Savinho sidelined by injury and Omar Marmoush competing for Egypt in the Africa Cup of Nations.
Rapid ascent
Semenyo has experienced a swift elevation since multiple loan spells from Bristol City in his early days.
He secured his Premier League breakthrough in 2023 and has evolved into a formidable winger in the elite league under Andoni Iraola.
Guardiola affirmed during his pre game briefing that Semenyo would feature in the lineup for Citys FA Cup encounter with third division Exeter on Saturday.
"All are aware of his abilities. He performed exceptionally at Bournemouth in recent seasons and can operate on either flank," the City manager noted.
"At the ideal age, his prime lies ahead. While clubs seek youth, he will forge his finest career moments with us."
City continue to seek reinforcements at the back following injuries to Ruben Dias and Josko Gvardiol.
Crystal Palace skipper Marc Guehi, whose deal expires at seasons end, remains their leading defensive prospect.
