Schroder's Brilliant Hat-Trick Clinches Europa Cup Final Victory for Hacken Over Hammarby

Schroder notched three additional goals alongside the one she netted in Stockholm last Saturday, sufficient for Hacken to secure the overall advantage heading into the Nordic Wellness Arena.

Home team's coach Elena Sadiku trusted the same starting lineup from the first match, and that confidence was justified with two early strikes in the opening nine minutes, leaving Hammarby facing an uphill battle.

The opener came in the sixth minute, following a free-kick from the halfway line that got cleared, yet Hacken sustained the assault by circulating the ball smoothly on the left. From that position, Alva Selerud's precise pass reached Schroder just outside the area, where she swivelled and fired a shot beyond Melina Loeck's fingertips.

Getingarna showed no signs of easing off, pressing for another goal that materialised three minutes on, as Monica Jusu Bah floated a pass ahead, Anna Anvegard settled it neatly for Schroder, who prodded it past the keeper comfortably.

Hammarby manager William Stromberg reacted swiftly after just 14 minutes, introducing Fanny Peterson in place of Gudrun Arnardottir to reshape the team. Yet, with Loeck holding a volley from Schroder hinting the change had minimal effect, Bajen finally found the net.

In the subsequent raid, the away side shifted play to Stina Lennartsson on the right, and her well-lifted delivery was nodded in by Svea Rehnberg as the clock ticked past 26 minutes.

The Stockholm outfit then controlled a promising phase, Peterson nearly drawing level that evening with a shot directly at goalkeeper Fanney Birkirsdottir, while Elin Sorum curled a solid attempt narrowly astray. Still, the break came with Hammarby requiring two more to match the aggregate.

Nevertheless, Hammarby narrowed the deficit to one goal merely two minutes into the second half, when Elin Sorum rose to connect with a deep corner from Vilma Koivisto, directing her header into the top corner beyond Birkirsdottir's dive, levelling matters at 2-2 in Gothenburg.

Full marks to the hosts though, who stood firm under duress and re-established their two-goal overall cushion six minutes further in. The standout Schroder dismantled Hammarby's rearguard via a slick exchange with Anvegard, breaking free to smash home and round off a superb hat-trick.

That effort sapped Hammarby's momentum, as they produced no further efforts on target until late in extra time, where Vilde Hasund's corner header was parried away. Even if it had crossed the line, it would scarcely have turned the tide, with Hacken sealing the 3-2 success amid their local supporters and igniting the festivities.

The 4-2 overall success positions Hacken as the inaugural Swedish club in men's or women's football to lift a European honour since Umea claimed the Women's Champions League back in 2004. Hammarby can only accept another runner-up finish, mirroring their Damallsvenskan second place behind Hacken last year, although they face off again in the Svenska Cupen decider in a fortnight.
