Sassuolo Snatch Late Draw with AC Milan in Serie A Clash
On Sunday, AC Milan managed only a 2-2 draw against Sassuolo, casting doubt over their stronghold at the summit of Serie A.
Sassuolo struck first through Ismael Kone before French winger Armand Lauriente levelled matters in the 77th minute to rescue a point for the visitors.
The Rossoneri hit back with 19-year-old defender Davide Bartesaghi netting the equaliser just past the half-hour mark. Opening his Serie A account, the young centre-back then added another goal after the interval, curling in from an acute angle, though Lauriente's response ensured Sassuolo departed with a share of the spoils.
"We delivered a solid performance," remarked Milan boss Massimiliano Allegri.
"Some may view it as two points lost, yet I see it as a valuable point gained that might prove crucial," he commented to DAZN.
"Improvement is still required, especially as we are shipping too many goals. Nevertheless, securing a top-four spot aligned with our initial seasonal goals."
With two strikes disallowed, Milan hold a slender one-point advantage but face the risk of being leapfrogged by Napoli, who face Udinese later, alongside Inter Milan.
Heading into the fixture, Milan topped the table ahead of Napoli on goal difference, as third-placed Inter could also surpass them contingent on their result versus Genoa.
