Salah attends Liverpool training session as uncertainty surrounds his future
Mohamed Salah showed up for training with Liverpool on Tuesday, while questions about the forward's long-term position at the Premier League title holders persisted.
The Egyptian player missed Liverpool's Champions League match against Inter Milan on Tuesday, after his bold public remarks against manager Arne Slot for benching him in three straight games.
Salah arrived at the Kirkby training ground by car on Tuesday and shared an Instagram photo from the gym there.
Following the 3-3 result against Leeds on Sunday, the 33-year-old expressed feeling betrayed by the club, stating there was no longer any connection with Slot. This led to speculation that the forward might leave Anfield in January, even after his contract renewal in April.
Clubs from Saudi Arabia are said to be lining up bids for Salah.
When questioned during a press conference in Milan on Monday about whether Salah, who has netted 250 goals for Liverpool since joining from Roma in 2017, had featured in his final match for the team, Slot responded: I have no idea. I cannot respond to that right now. He is entitled to his emotions, but not to voicing them publicly.
Salah, who did not even come off the bench during the game at Elland Road, will head off to the Africa Cup of Nations following next weekend's Premier League fixture at home to Brighton.
He voiced deep frustration at being a substitute once more against Leeds, commenting: I received numerous assurances over the summer, yet I have sat out three matches so far, meaning those commitments have not been honoured. I have often noted my strong rapport with the manager, but now that seems to have vanished entirely. I am unsure of the reason, yet from my viewpoint, it appears someone at the club wishes me gone.
Salah delivered his pointed statements during a tough campaign for both himself and Liverpool. The team has secured only four victories in 15 outings across all tournaments and occupies 13th spot in the Champions League with nine points, after a heavy 4-1 home loss to PSV Eindhoven in their latest continental fixture. Salah has been central to Liverpool's two Premier League successes and one Champions League victory over his storied time at Merseyside. However, amid the side's difficulties this term, where the champions languish in 10th in the standings, he has underperformed compared to his peak, managing just four goals from 13 league outings.
