Ruben Amorim dismissed from Manchester United post 14 month tenure

Manchester United have dismissed Ruben Amorim from his position as manager, 14 months following his arrival at Old Trafford, according to the clubs announcement on Monday.

In an official statement, United explained that the Portuguese coach has departed, with executives noting they "reluctantly decided it was the appropriate moment for a shift".

The statement continued: "This adjustment aims to provide the squad with the strongest chance for the most favourable Premier League outcome.

"We appreciate Rubens input to the organisation and extend our best wishes for his upcoming endeavours."

Present Under-18s coach Darren Fletcher is set to lead the side in their upcoming fixture versus Burnley on Wednesday.

At present, United hold sixth place in the Premier League standings following a 1-1 stalemate away to Leeds on Sunday.

Post-match, a frustrated Amorim emphasised during a notable media briefing that he serves as Uniteds manager, not merely the coach, while directing the scouting team and director of football Jason Wilcox "to fulfil their responsibilities".

The 40 year old hinted at internal dissatisfaction prior to the encounter, as the United head declined to elaborate on his latest remarks regarding the clubs recruitment strategy.

He appeared subdued when evading those queries, yet was more open when questioned on Sunday about whether he still enjoyed backing from the board.

"Folks, beginning with that and realising you get selective details on all matters, I joined here to lead Manchester United as manager, not just coach the team," Amorim stated. "That point stands clearly.

"I recognise my name is not Tuchel, nor Conte, nor Mourinho, yet I am the manager at Manchester United.

"This will continue for 18 months or until the board opts for a replacement, so that sums up my stance.

"Let us conclude there. I have no intention of resigning. I shall perform my duties until someone else arrives to take over."

Amorim took up the role in November 2024 and guided the squad to the Europa League final in Bilbao during May, where they fell to Tottenham Hotspur, though they ended the previous campaign in 15th in the Premier League.

His 14 month period marks the briefest spell for a full time manager at United since David Moyes exit after only eight months in 2014.

United, the 20 time English title holders, last claimed the Premier League crown in 2013, during Alex Fergusons concluding year at the helm.
