Rooney says Salah 'destroying his Liverpool legacy'

Wayne Rooney claims that Mohamed Salah is completely ruining his time at Liverpool after a shocking rant against boss Arne Slot.

The Egyptian attacker remarked on Saturday that he felt like Liverpool had dumped him unfairly and that his bond with Slot had vanished following his omission from the starting lineup for the third match running in a 3-3 stalemate against Leeds, where he was not even brought on later.

Following the upcoming home fixture versus Brighton, Salah will head off to the Africa Cup of Nations and suggested that might mark his last outing for Liverpool if picked.

Rooney, the ex Manchester United and England forward, thinks Slot needs to assert control at Anfield by excluding Salah entirely from Tuesdays Champions League clash with Inter Milan.

"Arne Slot must prove his control and bring him to heel by telling him 'you are not coming with the squad, your words are unacceptable'," Rooney stated in his recent BBC podcast.

"Head off to the Africa Cup of Nations by yourself and allow things to settle. If I were in his position, he would not make the team at all."

Rooney continued: "He (Salah) is totally wrecking his record at Liverpool. It would be a shame for him to waste it all. He has handled the situation poorly."

Salah ranks as Liverpools third top scorer ever, with 250 goals across 420 games for the team.

Yet the 33 year old has appeared far from his peak amid Liverpools difficulties this term, as they sit ninth in the standings, managing just four strikes in 13 Premier League outings.

Post Leeds, Salah informed journalists: "I have stated repeatedly that I enjoyed a solid rapport with the manager, yet abruptly we share none.

"It looks as though the club has left me to take the fall. That sums up my mood. I believe it is evident that somebody aimed for me to shoulder every criticism."
