Robertson pondering tricky issue of fresh Liverpool contract

Liverpool stalwart Andy Robertson stated on Thursday that he is willing to discuss a potential new agreement with the clubs leadership to remain at the current Premier League title holders.

The Scotland skipper, approaching the end of his existing agreement, has been overtaken in the starting lineup by summer signing Milos Kerkez who cost 40 million pounds or 53.5 million dollars.

Nevertheless the 31 year old defender has featured in 20 matches during the current campaign.

"Its a tough one to respond to. I have five months remaining and we must assess whether staying is viable or if other paths emerge," remarked Robertson who has secured eight significant honours since arriving at the club in 2017.

"I must consider what I and my family desire going ahead. I have devoted all I have to the team over the past eight and a half years and they have treated me exceptionally well.

"They have offered me solid deals when performing strongly. My ties with the senior figures at the club have been outstanding from the moment I joined."

He continued: "Bringing me in for 8 million pounds from Hull and achieving what I have certainly aids that I often point it out to them.

"Our bond is strong and its not exactly about what they must demonstrate to me or vice versa as we have mutual respect built over eight and a half years so well wait and see what develops."

Robertson had the chance to join Atletico Madrid following Liverpools second Premier League success in five seasons yet chose to stay aware that the 22 year old Kerkez could claim his position.

However Robertson emphasised that his hunger for regular starting roles persists.

"Jurgen Klopp once benched me for a single match and I was furious so I am someone who craves game time," noted Robertson who might return to the substitutes for Saturdays clash against Burnley.

"I have pushed through pain and taken the field at just 50 40 or 30 percent capacity for both club and nation.

"My involvement this term is somewhat altered which I am finding rewarding yet ultimately players aim to feature and anyone content on the sidelines has no place in professional football."
