Robertson criticises Szoboszlai over 'unacceptable' back-heel error at Liverpool

Liverpool full back Andrew Robertson hit out at Dominik Szoboszlai's error during the FA Cup victory against Barnsley, describing it as unacceptable, while noting that his team must improve further even with their current strong form.

The midfielder Szoboszlai made a poor choice with a back-heel in his own box that let Barnsley's Adam Phillips net the goal in the third round match at Anfield on Monday.

At that point Liverpool held a two-goal lead and they finished with a 4-1 triumph over the lower league side.

Earlier Szoboszlai had netted a fine goal from distance to open the scoring, yet manager Arne Slot plans to discuss the odd choice with the player from Hungary.

Robertson shared his annoyance at the needless slip up by Szoboszlai, prompting Barnsley boss Conor Hourihane to claim it showed a lack of respect.

The issue is that Dom starts with an impressive 60-yard run, gets cheers from The Kop, and perhaps that affected him, Robertson commented.

We can laugh about it at this stage but conceding like that is not on. Dom realises this. He has shone for us this term and did well once more.

It was just a moment of lost focus, and we cannot allow such lapses near our goal.

The team has now gone 11 games without defeat, helping to calm the troubles that hit the top flight title holders before.

However Scotland's Robertson pointed out that the match against Barnsley highlights how Liverpool risks allowing opponents back in too easily.

Being unbeaten for 11 is positive but our displays need sharpening, everyone agrees, he added.

We seem steadier at the back which is good, but now we must combine it all since some think our attack lacks punch.

To claim silverware and advance in cups, balance is key. That is our aim.
