Reports indicate Dani Ceballos poised to exit Real Madrid as Ajax show initial interest

The 29 year old Dani Ceballos transferred to Real Madrid from Real Betis in the summer of 2017, with the Seville club reportedly receiving €18 million for the midfielder. The Spanish star has appeared in 214 matches for Los Merengues, collecting 15 trophies in the process. During his nine year stint at Real, Ceballos was loaned out to Arsenal for two seasons from 2019 to 2021.

In the ongoing campaign, Ceballos has featured for only 810 minutes over 22 outings in various competitions.

Ceballos contract at Madrid ends this summer, and the 14 capped Spanish international is apparently heading for the exit. Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano announced on Thursday that Ceballos plans to depart once his deal expires, with three outfits positioned to acquire the midfielder.

Ajax set to pursue deal

The prominent Dutch side Ajax seems among the frontrunners, as technical director Jordi Cruyff aims to revamp the squad of the most successful champions ahead of summer.

Ajax currently occupy fifth spot in the Eredivisie and face the prospect of no trophies for a fourth straight season. Cruyff, who once served as football director for FC Barcelona, took up his role at the Amsterdam outfit in February.
