Hoping to finish on a positive note in front of their home supporters, Burnley made the worst possible start when a VAR decision judged that Florentino Luis had handled the ball in the penalty area.

Despite the delay before the penalty kick, Adam Armstrong remained composed and powerfully sent the ball past Max Weiß.

The home side controlled possession throughout the half, yet they could not produce any chances in the final third and were repeatedly exposed on the counter attack by a lively Wolves side.

Mateus Mane came nearest to extending the advantage with a brilliant curling shot, but Weiß got a vital fingertip to the ball, deflecting it onto the post.

Weiss was called upon again ten minutes before half time when Hugo Bueno seemed poised to volley in from close range, but the German goalkeeper sprinted off his line to make another superb save.

Despite their extensive control of the ball, it was not until first half stoppage time that Jose Sa was called into action, but he made a straightforward diving save to keep out Luis.

Despite their lack of sharpness in the opening half, the Clarets soon found their scoring touch after the restart. Zian Flemming had a lot of work to do when the ball came to him on the edge of the box, but he stayed calm and unleashed a perfect side footed shot beyond the desperate dive of Sa.

The home side appeared the more likely to score a winner and nearly completed the comeback following a powerful driving run by Hannibal Mejbri, but Sa managed to scoop the ball off the line at the second attempt.

In the end, both teams were comfortably relegated, and there was little at stake beyond pride, yet the result means Burnley finish 19th, although they failed to end a 15 game winless streak at home.

The draw also confirms Wolves’ position at the bottom of the table, having earned only three league victories throughout the entire season.
