Real Madrid Secure Convincing Victory Over Levante Thanks to Mbappe Double
Real Madrid continued their perfect start in La Liga by securing a solid 4-1 win against Levante on Tuesday evening.
Kylian Mbappe netted a brace to take his league tally to seven goals from just six appearances, helping Xabi Alonsos team preserve their unblemished record.
Vinicius Junior got the ball rolling with an excellent strike, while Franco Mastantuono also found the net for the table toppers.
Barcelona, sitting in second position, will face Real Oviedo on Thursday, five points adrift of the Spanish champions.
Vinicius had shown frustration at being substituted by Alonso in the recent Espanyol match on Saturday, yet the Brazilian winger lined up on the left and performed admirably.
Following his runners up spot behind Manchester Citys Rodri in the previous Ballon dOr awards, Vinicius has faced challenges in maintaining steady form.
That said, he rediscovered his touch at the Ciutat de Valencia ground and struck first after 28 minutes, capping off a lively opening to the fixture.
Levantes keeper Mathew Ryan pulled off a solid stop to thwart Vinicius, with Mastantuono striking the crossbar on the follow up as the visitors pressed hard.
Moments later, supplied by Fede Valverde from the right side of the area, Vinicius curled a delightful shot with the outside of his right foot into the far corner.
Ivan Romero and Adrian de la Fuente posed threats for Levante early on, but their defence held firm, and Madrid doubled their lead when Vinicius assisted Mastantuono for a powerful finish into the upper corner.
Ryan made another impressive save to keep out Vinicius from point blank range just before the break.
Levantes forward Karl Etta Eyong, who has been sharp at the seasons outset, headed in his fourth goal of the campaign from close quarters after a deflection on Romeros delivery sent the ball high.
This gave Levante a momentary spark, but Mbappe swiftly extinguished it.
Unai Elgezabal fouled the French ace inside the penalty area, and Mbappe coolly chipped the spot kick straight down the centre for goal number three.
Later, the striker, played through by Arda Guler, evaded Ryan and slotted home his second of the match.
Mbappe endured a tough settling in period at Madrid following his summer 2024 move from Paris Saint Germain, though he peaked in the latter part of the campaign.
He has brought that momentum into this season, boasting nine goals from seven outings in all competitions.
