Real Madrid fine Valverde and Tchouameni €500,000 after training session altercation
The two footballers each received a €500,000 fine following their involvement in a significant clash at Thursday's training session, which allegedly resulted in team captain Valverde requiring hospital treatment.
According to a club announcement, the pair met with the appointed investigator and showed full regret for their behaviour.
"Real Madrid C. F. confirms that after the incidents prompting disciplinary action yesterday against our players Federico Valverde and Aurelien Tchouameni, they both attended a session with the assigned investigator today," the club's statement indicated.
While there, the players conveyed their total remorse over the occurrence and offered apologies to one another.
"In addition, they issued regrets to the club, their fellow players, the management team, and the supporters, while placing themselves at the disposal of Real Madrid for any penalty the club considers fitting.
"In light of this, Real Madrid has applied a monetary sanction of five hundred thousand euros per player, thus finalising the relevant internal processes. "
The club noted on Thursday that Valverde had been found to have a head injury and needed to recuperate for 10 to 14 days.
Officials stated that Valverde was "at home and doing well" following the event, which came a day after a previous dispute between the individuals.
Valverde shared a message on social platforms on Thursday, expressing sorry to the club and fans, yet he rejected claims that matters had spiralled with a colleague, explaining that in "a dispute", he had "unintentionally toppled a table".
The seriousness of the matter triggered an urgent gathering with high-level club executives, during which no team members departed the training area for more than an hour as Real worked to prevent rising conflicts that have heightened anxiety and split the group.
This disturbance came after a further reported confrontation with defender Alvaro Carreras at the start of the week, intensifying the pressure within the team.
